Mary E. Rodman Elementary School

Mary E. Rodman Elementary School was established in 1962 and is named after a local leader in education for African Americans who went on to teach and administer at black schools around the city before her death in 1937. Currently, the school serves 285 students, 99% of whom come from minority backgrounds.

A successful Community School, with the leadership of one of Child First’s on-site Community School Coordinators, makes the school an integral part of the community.

Specifically, Community School Coordinators focus on implementing partnerships and strategies to:

Increase school attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism
Improve the school ambiance, by creating a welcoming environment where families feel known and valued
Reduce school suspensions and repeat suspensions
Increase family engagement and community volunteerism in activities that support the school and student success
