Tayshawn McConnell participated in the Child First Authority after school program for five years. During his 7th
and 8th grade years, layshawn was a Youth Ambassador. As a Youth Ambassador, Tayshawn was part of a group of leaders that provided programmatic suggestions, planned field trips, and participated in leadership development suggestions for CFA’s middle school afterschool programs. After graduating from middle school, TayShawn volunteered his time assisting the summer program. The following year, CFA hired Tayshawn to work in the summer program as an aide, a position he has held for the past two years. Tayshawn has been a huge asset to the summer program, assisting students in the classroom and being a team player performing any task that he is asked to do with fidelity.
When asked about his experience with Child First, Tayshawn had this to say. “My experience with Child First was and is great; once in a lifetime. When I was in the program I got to see and learn many things. Being ambassador was exciting, being able to plan out trips, and to learn what it was like to have some type of huge responsibility. During the summer I work with Child First and I wouldn’t want be anywhere else. I help younger kids, hopefully, want to stay engaged with Child First and do as I did. I feel like Child First helped me mature into a more responsible and respectful teen. For that I thank them, but, especially my mom for making me be in it.”
